Taco Seasoning

Taco Seasoning

Years ago after discovering that most taco seasoning packets in the grocery stores contain monosodium glutamate (MSG), I decided it was time to make taco seasoning at home.  MSG Free!

Now, not only am I no longer consuming MSG, but I’m also saving $1 or more each week at the grocery.  Not a huge amount, but a years worth of taco seasoning was costing $50 a year. Seems silly right?!

Not sure if it’s silly to have #TacoTuesday every week like we do, or having spent $50 on spice packets… We love our taco night and it gives us awesome leftovers for lunch the next day! Continue reading “Taco Seasoning”

Valentine’s Day Low Carb Cut-Out Cookies

Valentine’s Day Low Carb Cut-Out Cookies

Aside from actual flowers on Valentine’s Day, I have to say that one of my favorite things leading up to Cupid’s special day is making and decorating heart shape cookies.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from eating low carb foods, it is that the years’ long traditions we have need to take on a new twist, and this is no exception!  I mean just the name of the cookies alone sends warning sirens for sugar and carb detection!!!  Decorated Sugar Cookies.  Ack!

Here is the new twist ~  Valentine’s Day Low Carb Cut-Out Cookies!  Yep! You heard it right ~ Low Carb!

Here is a traditional decorated cut-out cookie for Valentine’s Day that is pretty darn close to Continue reading “Valentine’s Day Low Carb Cut-Out Cookies”

Low Carb Homemade BBQ Sauce

Low Carb Homemade BBQ Sauce

I have this love hate relationship with BBQ food since starting a low carb keto way of eating.  I’ve grown up in the South enjoying BBQ with all kinds of delicious sauces my entire life and it is definitely a favorite food and flavor of mine.  That’s the Love part of the relationship.  The Hate part of the relationship is that all those sauces and flavor come about by the use of CARBS. Low Carb Pumpkin Muffins

This recipe for Low Carb Pumpkin Muffins is a definite winner with my family, and me.

Most of my life… actually all of my life… I’ve never liked pumpkin things.  So no pumpkin pie, no pumpkin coffee, no pumpkin lattes during fall for me.  I know… gasp!  I admit it, I’ve never been one of those that looks forward to pumpkin anything.

But NOW!!!  — I can’t say that anymore.

If you haven’t discovered by now, the longer you eat a low carb keto diet the more your tastes seem to change.  So, I guess it’s possible that I have to give the credit to eating a low carb lifestyle for my newly acquired taste for pumpkin. Continue reading “Low Carb Pumpkin Muffins”

Low Carb Keto Staples

Low Carb Keto Staples

There are certain foods that have become low carb Keto staples in our home. These are food items that we typically buy or use each week because we know they are fairly ‘safe’ and taste great!

Fortunately for us, #KetoHusband is a backyard gardener so some of these things we won’t actually have to buy depending on the time of year. So it saves us a little money from time to time. Every penny counts right?

It’s simple to just put a list together of some of the food that is okay for a low carb keto diet, but this list is more of the staples. These are things we need or I use in recipes weekly. Save this list to your Pinterest page and you can pull it up when you might be starting your shopping list for the week.

Why Keto? Why Ketosis?

Why Keto? Why Ketosis?

There are many reasons why someone would choose to follow a Ketogenic Diet, but the 2 top reasons are Weight Loss and Health.

Both reasons really go hand in hand, but most often people will start a ketogenic diet so they can lose weight.

Why? Because it works! – and honestly, it can work without exercising.

This is why – a very basic explanation. When we eat food that increases our blood sugar level, our bodies produce insulin to try to lower our blood sugar back down to a normal level. The excess insulin that is not needed or used by our body is stored as fat.

GOAL – Don’t Allow Your Body Make Excess Insulin
